Profanity?

Profanity bothers me. There are people who use it without being ashamed. I don't use it but I see little kids on the streets saying the "n" word (I find that offensive). Why do they do it? All I can think of is trying to act cool, but cussing like a sailor isn't gonna get you anywhere in life. Any suggestions?
